PATRICE PIKE - Austin, Texas is known for its laid back, bohemian yet ultra committed music scene--something Austin native Patrice Pike immediately conveys.
She's been a professional musician since she was sixteen, but has maintained such a raw, down-to-earth quality and irrepressible talent that Billboard magazine proclaimed her "one of the finest up and coming contemporary rock singers in America".
High praise--and richly deserved. An award winning singer songwriter rocker with a punk edge, she's co-created numerous records and musical groups (including Sister Seven and Patrice Pike and the Blackbox Rebellion), toured all over the United States and Western Europe and just plain impressed those who've seen, heard and watched the talented woman.
And if deep musical aptitude wasn't enough, Patrice is a dedicated humanitarian who, in addition to other progressive endeavors, works with at-risk youth in Austin and abroad. In both music and life, Patrice Pike truly is the real deal.
IRISH SESSION - "What's the difference between a bodhran and a trampoline?" Shaver asks, in an Irish variation on the ever-popular bluegrass banjo jokes. "With a trampoline you have to take your shoes off." WHILE the weekly Irish session remains the heart and soul of Houston's Celtic folk-music community, a new generation of full-time bands is reaching a bigger and broader audience. Most local Celtic bands appear primarily at special events such as St. Patrick's Day and St. Andrew's Day celebrations.
The Flying Fish Sailors, the Scottish Rogues and Wyndnwyre have become regulars in recent years at the Texas Renaissance Festival in Magnolia, and the Flying Fish Sailors also are annual favorites at Dickens on the Strand in Galveston.
But the most successful local bands -Clandestine, Ceili's Muse and Gordian Knot - have built loyal followings that will turn out on a cold and rainy weeknight to tip a few brews and sing along with the bawdy old story-songs. "In the last five years, there's been a real upsurge of interest," says Gary Coover, former host of KPFT's widely mourned Shepherd's Hay radio program and a longtime supporter of Houston's folk-music scene.
"Bands like Ceili's Muse and Clandestine appeal to a younger crowd. They're putting a lot of energy into it and really giving it a boost." Local Celtic bands frequently share audiences, as well as billings at festivals and events. But each has a distinct sound and approach, from Clandestine's powerful blend of fiddle and pipes to the romantic storytelling of Ceili's Muse and Gordian Knot's contemporary "Celtic folk 'n' roll."
Wyndnwyre favors a delicate instrumental balance of hammered dulcimer, flute and harp. The Scottish Rogues, self-proclaimed "bad boys of the bagpipe world," play nothing but pipe-and-drum instrumentals. What you won't hear from these bands are such popular Irish war horses as Danny Boy. "We do our own thing," says Gordian Knot's Cidnie MacNamee. "When people want to hear Danny Boy or songs like that, we tell them we just don't do that."

McGonigel's Mucky Duck presents Charlie Shafter.
Who is the Charlie Shafter Band? The Charlie Shafter Band consists of four marginally educated ant farmers from Duluth, Minnesota. The band was formed from a common friendship and genuine love for the 1980's. Their music is world renown; however, their story is little known. Or maybe it's the other way around?
Whatever...
The Charlie Shafter Band set out to do two things when it formed: 1) to clarify the pronunciation of the word barrette, and 2) to prove the Aztecs did indeed invent the vacation. In accordance with prophecy, four ant farmers will drop their small ant farming shovels and pick up musical instruments. Joel (The Frugal) is awarded the power of rhythm. Charlie (The Meek) is endowed with spongy vocals.
A power from above enables Clayton (The Just) to funk it up. Lastly, Adam (The Cruel) was infused at birth with tangy fingers. The band has received mixed reviews from places as far away as Germany. They tour extensively and farm copiously, never losing sight of their ultimate goal.

McGonigel's Mucky Duck presents Jack Saunders.
Jack Saunders has been part of the Texas music scene since his arrival in the Lone Star State during the late 1970s. Born in Southern California and raised in a military family, Jack lived in a number of different states-from Rhode Island to Alaska. While taking a break from the frozen north, he ventured to Dallas, where he was impressed by Texas music.
Following school he moved to Austin, eventually winding up in Houston, where there was a thriving music scene in the Montrose area. In Houston, Jack met many singer-songwriters playing in local clubs-from John Vandiver and Danny Everitt, to Shake Russell and Michael Marcoulier - and he performed with these and other songwriters on guitar and bass. Jack subsequently joined the art rock group, Taxi Dancer, and formed his own band.
In 1982, Shake Russell, who had just split with his longtime partner, Dana Cooper, offered Jack a position playing bass and guitar in his band. The band, which changed personnel many times, lasted 7 years and produced several records. In 1990, Shake and Jack released their first CD as a duo. From 1990-1996, they released 4 CDs as a duo, and one with Dana Cooper as a trio. These years provided Jack experience as a recording artist and singer-songwriter, and were formative in teaching him the recording studio techniques he would need as an engineer and producer. In 1996, Jack and Shake parted ways, and Jack released two CDs while traveling and fronting his own band.
Since then, Jack has been very busy as a producer and engineer in his Houston recording studio, White Cat. Most recently, he has been dividing his time between producing artists in the studio and playing his own shows, along with backing up his singer-songwriter friends-Ray Hubbard, Susan Gibson, Greg Trooper, Randy Weeks, and Hayes Carll, to name a few. Jack continues to have fun with a variety of different projects, including his own. "Living for the Sunshine."

Your game ticket is also your ticket to the post-game concert and seating for the show will be general admission. The concert stage will be located at third base facing the visitor's dugout.*
“I would love to have been one of the great singers in the world -- like Vince Gill or someone like that -- even if it was just for one hour,” says Robert Earl Keen. “But I really feel like my gift is writing songs. That’s just there and it’s always been there. I don’t know why, but I always have stories -- they don’t all have to be true, just good. If I could put a subtitle on my best songs, it would be ‘based on a good story.’”
With his latest Lost Highway album, The Rose Hotel (which hit #1 on the Americana charts), Keen re-confirms his place among the Lone Star State’s great storytellers, capable of painting rich, poignant landscapes worthy of Cormac McCarthy and spinning satirical yarns that’d do Kinky Friedman proud. The disc’s rough-hewn tone -- it’s one of the more immediate, organic efforts in Keen’s varied catalog -- emphasizes both ends of that emotional spectrum, with Band-styled organ washes dappling the evocative title track and a hoedown-worthy breakdown propelling the wry “Wireless in Heaven” to its conclusion.
"I've done rustic records, polished records and live records," says Keen. " And this time, I wanted to do one that sounded rich and robust. I wanted it to sound big. I wanted it to have a lot of voices. I think it sounds great. The feedback from everybody has been outstanding."
Keen and producer Lloyd Maines (known for his work with his daughter’s little combo, The Dixie Chicks, and many many others) got a lot of voices onto The Rose Hotel in both figurative and literal senses. The album is loaded with tunes designed to get toes to tap and hips to swivel, and peppered with guest appearances sure to pique interest -- from the unmistakable deadpan tones that Billy Bob Thornton adds to the shaggy-dog saga “10,000 Chinese Walk Into a Bar” to the rough-and-ready baritone of Greg Brown, who swaps verses with Keen on his own “Laughing River.”
“I’ve always been a huge fan of Greg’s and I knew that he was in town when we were recording, so I called up the club where he was playing and asked him if he’d be on the album,” recalls Keen. “I promised him I’d make it easy as possible. My whole family came down for the session.”
A familial vibe extends throughout The Rose Hotel, as is usually the case when Robert Earl Keen enters the studio with his band, a tight-knit group that’s navigated the globe together for the better part of a decade-and-a-half. Keen prides himself on the fact that the albums he and his compatriots turn out are almost completely self-contained and 100 percent free from artificial colors and flavors.
“These songs are real,” he says. “They’re hand-made. When people come to see us live, they’re seeing the people who created them play them and that’s not all that common these days. It’s the kind of magic that doesn’t happen all the time.”
Well, Keen and his band have been making that kind of magic happen for quite a spell, ever since the singer started putting his writing -- a pastime that had been part of his life since before he started elementary school -- to music while a student at Texas A & M University. Keen dipped deep into the waters of his native state’s musical tradition early on, digging out nuggets from such touchstones as Bob Wills and Lightnin' Hopkins.
By the time he recorded his first full-length studio album, 1989’s West Textures, Keen had already established himself as one of the most engaging live performers on the roadhouse circuit, capable of coaxing a two-step out of the most reticent audience member and planting a tear in the beer of the toughest customer. That persuasive style -- captured on four different live albums over the course of his two decades on the road -- also helped him win friends and influence contemporaries like Jack Ingram, Pat Green and Todd Snider, all of whom have sung his praises.
Keen has had no trouble translating that appeal in the studio over the years, from 1994’s highly acclaimed Gringo Honeymoon to the top 10 breakthrough disc Gravitational Forces -- the latter of which showcased the sheer breadth of his stylistic reach. He and his band always find a way to connect with the pleasure center of the listener, and -- as the genial, good-natured tone of the songs on The Rose Hotel prove -- they manage to have a mighty good time of their own in the process.
“I wrote most of the songs at the Scriptorium, this little shack about 10 miles from where I live,” says Keen. “I usually just end up hanging out there -- I’m a world-class hanger-outer -- but the songs really started coming to me. I had no intentions. But I ended up with these songs and found that I had enough for a record.”
Those songs address everything from, well, his ability to simply hang out (the gently rollicking “Something That I Do”) to his years of soaking up the atmosphere in clubs of all shapes and sizes (the woozy waltz “Goodnight Cleveland”). They flow from the grooves the way they flow from Keen’s own spirit -- naturally, affably and with a lack of fanfare that’s remarkably refreshing in this age of glitz.
“I was in flux before this project,I wasn’t sure there was a purpose in compiling these songs in this old-fashioned way. But then I realized, well, it doesn’t matter if there’s a point -- this is my life, this is what I do and I’m proud of it.”
Tickets start as low as $7! Catch the ballgame and the concert with a Texas country legend all for one low price!

McGonigel's Mucky Duck presents Hamilton Loomis.
“If blues, soul, and rock can be said to form a triangle, you’ll find Hamilton Loomis right in the center of it”, says Guitar Player Magazine. An apt description, as young Loomis is one of the young artists at the forefront of bringing blues based American music into the 21st century and redefining it for a contemporary audience. Spanning youth and tradition, Loomis bridges the gap between generations of music-lovers both in the U.S. and around the world.
Whereas similar aged acts like Black Keys, Robert Randolph and White Stripes play American rock music with heavy blues influences, Loomis plays the inverse. His is an undeniably blues based artist escalating into what All Music Guide calls “…a mixed bag of modern blues, modern funk, and slick soul.”
"Innovate, don't imitate." Hamilton Loomis took his mentor, Bo Diddley's advice. It speaks volumes when the likes of Diddley, Johnny "Clyde" Copeland, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, and Albert Collins take you under their wings. The twenty-something Texas sensation isn't just another cat-in-a-hat with a Strat. He has crafted his blues roots into a funk-a-fied recipe all his own.
A multi-instrumentalist, Hamilton practically grew up in the spotlight. He began on drums and piano at age five, guitar at age six, then conquered the harmonica. Gigging non-stop since age fourteen, he formed a family doo-wop group with his musician parents. By seventeen, he had played the world-famous Delta Blues Festival for an audience of 40,000.
Before he was eighteen, he was writing, arranging, and performing his own material. He produced his first CD, titled simply Hamilton, which received a Grammy nomination for "Best Contemporary Album of the Year".
Bo Diddley described Hamilton's second disc, Just Gimme One Night, this way. "You got to put some seasoning in what you're doin', and this boy's got the whole salt shaker!" Hamilton's third release, All Fired Up, his fourth, Live: Highlights, and his latest, "Kickin' It", on Blind Pig Records, are both on radio rotation on both coasts. It has set the stage for him to stake his claim as a top contemporary performer.
Touring for the past three years, his band radiates a potent vibe and boasts razor-sharp arrangements, Hammond underbelly and Hamilton's groove-driven guitar, all weaving around his silky, soul-drenched vocals.
"I can't forget the legends who believed in me, so paying my dues must include giving back to the community," states Hamilton. He has taught blues in the schools, holds community blues tributes, and gives regular harmonica clinics. Very few artists are able to meld such a strong sense of the past with such an ardent vision of the future.
Above all, performing is Hamilton's forte. He establishes an easy rapport with his audience, which instantly feels his love of the music. Chris Rose of Eminence Speaker Corporation summed it up. "Seeing him perform at the 2001 NAMM Show renewed my faith in new music. He's the hottest thing out of Texas since the jalapeno!"

McGonigel's Mucky Duck presents Danny O'Flaherty.
Danny O'Flaherty has captivated audiences from Old Jaffa and Jerusalem to Washington D.C. None other than The Washington Post raved, "Suddenly we were no longer in our nation's capital; we were on a trip across the waters as we clapped, sung along, laughed, and yes, even wept a tear at a gentle ballad. For Danny O'Flaherty is good, very good. His program wowed an appreciative crowd."
Whether is it a sold-out concert with the Tulsa Philharmonic, an invitation only performance for the alumnae of Notre Dame University, an Inaugural Ball, a World's Fair, a command performance for a pope or president, or a featured performance for the Council of Exceptional Children's Annual Convention or the American Ireland Fund, Danny O'Flaherty leaves every audience spellbound.
This talented musician switches seamlessly from guitar to accordion to tin whistle to harmonica. His repertoire is extraordinary. Haunting ballads of loves lost and found, songs of the sea and glen, aching calls for tolerance and peace, jigs and reels; Gaelic favorites - traditional tunes interspersed with original hit recordings from his popular CDs - all this and a bewitching personality that has audiences young and old calling for more.

It's McGonigel's Mucky Duck Songwriters NIGHT!
SHAKE RUSSELL
Weaving sophisticated harmonies through his songs and drawing from various genres, Shake created a style of folk-rock that is uniquely his own.
His repertoire consists of a blend of love songs, ballads, and waltzes, skillfully balanced with lively rockabilly tunes and soulful rhythm and blues pieces. His lyrics are imbued with beautiful imagery, catchy phrases, and inventive similes and metaphors.
But it is the rich, melodious voice of Shake Russell that breathes life and spirit into the lyrics. For more than three decades, Texas singer-songwriter Shake Russell has been entertaining audiences throughout the region with his unique, Americana style of folk-rock. A prolific songwriter, Shake has written or co-written hundreds of melodies.
Through the years, Shake’s songs and albums have frequented the Billboard charts, with many, including “Deep in the West,” “You’ve Got a Lover,” “Put Yourself in My Shoes,” “One More Payment,” and “Our Kind of Love” being recorded by such distinguished artists as Waylon Jennings, Jessi Colter, Ricky Skaggs, Clint Black, and Carolyn Dawn Johnson. Ricky Skagg’s hit recording of “You’ve Got a Lover”
DANNY EVERITT
Danny was nominated Texas Music Awards Singer/Songwriter of the Year 2009. Whether he’s performing his own material, or you’re hearing it recorded by other artists, you can tell immediately that Danny does more than pen great songs. His are spirited, rhythmic, funny and warm expressions of a Texas troubadour.
Singer/songwriter Danny Everitt began his professional musical journey in the Austin, Texas nightclub scene in the 1970's. While attending The University, he formed a band and signed a recording contract with Pompeii Records out of Dallas. After graduating with a degree in Radio-TV-Film he moved to Nashville where he became a staff songwriter and began traveling the U.S. as a solo performer for Buddy Lee Attractions. Touring in Texas, Danny met an old friend from school who set up an audition at a folk club in Houston. A growing live music scene there captured his imagination. So he returned to his home state and enjoyed a very successful reputation as a songwriter and performer in the Montrose district deep in the heart of the city.
MICHAEL MARCOULIER
Michael Marcoullier is no stranger to the Houston music scene from back in the day when Michael, John Vandiver, Shake Russell and Dana Cooper ruled Texas music stages.

McGonigel's Mucky Duck presents Steve Poltz.
He trick-or-treated at Liberace’s house, planned a two-day stay in Amsterdam that ended a month later with him escaping the city under the cover of darkness, and was Bob Hope’s favorite altar boy. Alone, these anecdotes go well with a fistful of peanuts at a cocktail party. But on top of all this, he also co-wrote the longest-running song on the Billboard Top 100 (Jewel’s “You Were Meant for Me”), had a debut solo album that earned three and a half stars in Rolling Stone, and was awarded the title of “San Diego’s Most Influential Artist of the Decade” at the San Diego Music Awards. What you end up with is one of the most engaging, twisted, and prolific songwriters of our time — Steve Poltz. Poltz has cultivated his reminiscences into a heartbreakingly gorgeous collection of songs for his new album, Traveling.
If you’ve been anywhere near a television in the past two months, odds are excellent that you’ve heard the voice of Poltz, whose song “You Remind Me (Who I Am)” is prominently featured in a Jeep television commercial. (The Internet has been flooded with viewers Googling as much information as they can get on the voice behind this contagiously upbeat tune.) And he has released a series of solo albums that have garnered him worldwide notice, with songs prominently featured in TV shows and movies such as Notting Hill. He’s the only artist to have written songs recorded by Jewel and Mojo Nixon . . . and Squeeze’s Glen Tillbrook too.
But Poltz is not just another golden-voiced honey dripper, belting out ballads for tender make-out moments. This is the same Steve Poltz who pioneered punk-folk music as the front man for The Rugburns, the San Diego-based band whose repertoire boasts a thunderous collection of fist-pumping anthems about cannibalism, football, and the peaks and valleys of the Epicurean life. Poltz even released an album called Answering Machine, consisting entirely of 45-second songs that he recorded for his outgoing answering machine message. Fans all over the world have ordered copies faster than they can be printed, and Neil Young himself has remarked that he counts this among his favorite albums.
Poltz has collaborated with an impressive list of renowned musicians through the years, such as Jewel, David Lowery (Cracker), Victoria Williams, and Van Dyke Parks. He was also tapped as the bandleader for The Hugh Thompson Show, a popular talk show that is a centerpiece of the new online AT&T Tech Channel.
With the new CD Traveling, the artist has drifted from the manic, irreverent form that has marked previous efforts and instead created a soundscape of sweet, delicate songs that carry emotions so raw that listeners will relate on an immediate and personal level. As only he can do, Steve manages to balance sparse yet catchy arrangements with subject matter that unflinchingly examines the universal themes of lost love, a lifetime of travel, and the wisdom born from these experiences. This album is the perfect companion to a rainy weekend morning or a warm summer evening, with its soothing blend of guitar, strings, and Steve’s patently warm and smoky voice.
“Haters’ Union” couches anguished, confessional lyrics within an achingly pretty melody, with vocals so rich and so deep that the song takes on a vivid intensity, as if you are immersed in a late night conversation with an old friend. ”Rains” is infectiously punchy, even as Steve describes the hopeless feeling of trying to escape the memory of a lost lover while staring out on a rainy day. “Brief History of My Life,” a massive favorite at live shows, showcases his considerable prowess as both a storyteller and a songwriter, as he takes the listener through a sometimes melancholic, sometimes hilarious walk through his early years, all the way through to the present day. Finally, “Street Fighter’s Face” is an explosive rocker that cuts across all politics and nails the sense of both pride and despair felt by the narrator, a young marine coming to grips with the realities of war.
Traveling is ultimately an album of hope, with melodies that are exquisite in their simplicity. Recorded through 2007, the album additionally features the renowned string quartet Tosca, whose arrangements create a distinct aural tapestry behind Steve’s fluid acoustic patterns.
In addition to the 11 songs on Traveling, Poltz recorded 11 additional tracks that will be included on a separate album called Unraveling, which will be available exclusively at his live shows.
”This album is more a part of my life than any record before it,” says Poltz. “It’s actually a brief history of my life — from an end of a relationship to a new beginning. Writing and getting it made was a long process — three and a half years and 100 songs to be exact, which I edited down to 22 and then to 11. In making this record, I slept on the floor of the studio. It’s all I thought about. And finally, out came what I believe is a little gem of an album.”

McGonigel's Mucky Duck presents Red Elvises.
Red Elvises’ songs aren’t necessarily poetry, though they do rhyme. And they’re guaranteed smile-makers, whether the subject is rocket men and women in space, or sad cowboys and drinking with Jesus, or bellydancing and beer. And more beer. And more beer. And more beer.
Did I mention the beer? I did? Good, because Red Elvises excel as a party band. Yuzov is hilarious, playing to the crowd by cupping his hand to his ear Hulk Hogan-style to encourage louder cheering, and bellowing repeatedly into the mic: “Are you having fun!?” He’s the ringleader, a larger-than-life character who commands the room as ably as he commands his guitar. Imagine if Chuck Berry and Mikhail Gorbachev had a kid, and that kid was the Director of Drunken Sweaty Fun on some hedonistic cruise ship. Yuzov is that kid.
He’s also the leader of a pretty snappy band, really. Red Elvises are a hall of nations: According to Yuzov, the bassist (wearing tiger stripes) is an Israeli and the female guitarist (new-wave haircut) is Puerto Rican. Keyboard player and founding member Oleg Bernov (floral print suit) is from Russia, and the two drummers (one female in leopard-print and one male in red sequined suit) are American. (The band played its first set with the gal behind the kit, and its second with the guy. A huge fan told me it’s the guy’s last tour, and the gal is learning songs as she goes along.)
Together, they’re quite good at what they do. If you look past the jokes and the retro dance moves and whatnot, Red Elvises are a tight combo, totally adept at anything they try, be it surf music, ’50s rockabilly, reggae, doo-wop, lounge-pop, or whatever. The first set seemed focused more on traditional songs, while the second featured more instrumentals and individual solos. Near the end of the night — either before or after the conga line, I can’t remember — the band effortlessly shifted from a psychedelic guitar riff into “Hava Nagila.” It was sublime.

Dosey Doe Coffee House presents The Folk Union Review Tour.
The Folk Union Review Tour features Stephanie Briggs - Luke Leverett - K Phillips. Three Bands rolled into one. Singing pretty and playing aggressively. Songs can be catchy without being banal...that pop is not a dirty word … that sarcasm and sincerity can be fun…refusing to compromise…
The music industry often forgets that music is art. Stephanie Briggs has not forgotten. In fact, she thoughtlessly aligns her craft with genuine experiences. Ever vibrantly composed, Briggs' true artistry is found in her intricately layered songs, both lyrically and musically, and her equally intriguing designs. But after touring and promoting for 10 years, loyalty to her craft inspired Briggs to transform the way music is created, performed and distributed.
You won't find her playing five nights a week to empty bars or disengaged patrons. Instead you will find her pouring hours of labor in to maintaining her art as a business, creating new music and orchestrating unique, themed performances for audiences with clout. Unlike most, Briggs refuses to compromise her integrity for wealth or notoriety. She has witnessed industry politics and has chosen instead to take a stand for sincere, elaborately crafted music.
Her work ethic, competence and raw talent set her apart in a sea of uninspired so-called competitors. But she is her own worst critic; everything heard and seen has been relentlessly revised and perfected. This consistent dedication and fidelity to originality makes Stephanie Briggs simply worth listening to.
Luke Leverett is an acoustic pop artist from the NewBraunfels/San Antonio area. His music is reminiscent of the current crop of male singer-songwriters, like the Jason Mraz types and the John Mayers, but is set apart by his unusually great guitar playing, his eclecticism, and his sophisticated melodies. His voice will probably remind some of singers like Freddie Mercury and Jeff Buckley. The performances are always fun and interesting, a blend of rock-star bravado, singer-songwriter candidness, and Jack Black comedy. His songs are an intriguing mix of fact and fiction, ranging from pure acoustic pop to jazz to indie rock.
And the songs are bolstered by his funky jazzy drummer and bass player a la Dave Matthews Band, that also provide gorgeous layers of harmony vocals.
K Phillips is currently sitting in Smith’s Old Bar in Atlanta, Ga. waiting to play a show. He’s been traveling across the south relying on merch sales and southern hospitality. He plays every day.

Dosey Doe Coffee House presents The Ginn Sisters. This is one of the first shows with Sisters back on their own.
The Fabulous Ginn Sisters have made a career of breaking hearts in clubs across North America. Their already constant touring schedule recently ballooned to include touring as part of the Fred Eaglesmith Band. Backing up the iconic Indie artist led to a collaboration with Eaglesmith’s band in their opening sets. Eaglesmith was struck by the new band’s rough, rawboned sound and invited them to record the new Fabulous Ginn Sisters CD in his Port Dover, Ontario studio.
The result is a smoky, drunken stumble through a broken-heart junkyard. ‘You Can’t Take a Bad Girl Home’ is set for release in 2010. Having notched out a place for themselves with their amazing singing, the new CD is a marked dodge towards rock and roll. The songs are bleak yet poppy, the singing is subtle and nuanced, and the music is a garage mix of reverb and mystery hum. The Fabulous Ginn Sisters (then ‘The Ginn Sisters’) first made their mark on the Americana scene with their 2006 release “Blood Oranges” which received stellar reviews from regional, national and international media. It was played on Americana, AAA, Folk, Country, Eclectic, and even Bluegrass radio. It reached #2 on the RootsMusic Report, #3 on the FAR Chart and #24 on the Americana Chart. It was the #1 independently released CD on the Americana Chart for 2006. It was in top rotation on a number of national radio, TV-radio and Internet stations, including XM Radio's X Country.
They have played in some of the best listening rooms in the country like The Ark, Mountain Stage, The Little Bear, The Bitter End, The Cactus Cafe, Eddies Attic, CSPS, the Focal Point, Swallow Hill, and the Bluebird Café and festivals including Big State, Kerrville, and Flat Rock. They are primarily interested in playing at festivals, music clubs, theatres and listening rooms.

Blanco's Bar & Grill presents ;Gary P. Nunn.
Gary P. Nunn began his musical career as a 7th grader in a garage band in Brownfield, Texas, where he was an honor student and all-around athlete. Upon graduation from night school, he attended Texas Tech University and South Plains College while pursuing music on weekends playing with "The Fabulous Sparkles," a take-no-prisoners rock band that was the rage of West Texas during the sixties.
In 1968 he transferred to the University of Texas at Austin immersing himself in the lively local music scene while studying pharmacy at UT. In 1972, Michael Martin Murphey, Jerry Jeff Walker, and Willie Nelson moved to Austin and a new Era in music was born. The movement was dubbed "Texas progressive," "outlaw music" among other monikers and Gary P. Nunn was right in the middle of it. At one time he was playing bass for Murphey, Walker and Nelson!
For Murphy and Walker, he lead The Lost Gonzo Band who backed them up on stage and in the studio, and helped propel them to national notoriety. It was during this time that Nunn honed his songwriting skills composing tunes that were recorded by Nelson, Walker and Murphey, as well as Rosanne Cash, David Allen Coe and others, earning him several gold and platinum records for writing, publishing and performing.
Gary P. Nunn and The Lost Gonzo Band parted company with Jerry Jeff Walker in 1977, an association that lasted for four years and produced six popular LP's for MCA Records.
The Lost Gonzo Band produced three LP's for MCA and Capital before disbanding in 1980. These records are coveted by Gonzo enthusiasts for their eclectic blend of rock, folk, and country.
1980 found Gary P. Nunn on his own and in the position of having to start over, never having performed under his own name. Since that time, he has grown into one of the best known and most popular artists on the Texas music scene - a testament to his talent and determination.
Since venturing on his own, Gary P. Nunn has assumed the responsibility for his own career. Without the aid of an agent and manager, has built a substantial music business organization which handles his booking and houses his music publishing companies.
He has entered into a relationship with Campfire Records, an independent label out of San Antonio, which has produced three CD's, Totally Guacamole in 1993, Roadtrip in 1994, and Under My Hat released in 1996, as well as licensing four previously released CD's Gary P. had produced on various independent labels.
Campfire Records has secured national distribution of the entire Gary P. Nunn catalogue and is currently fielding offers from major labels interested in distributing the catalogue in Europe. The number of products being moved is starting to attract the attention of major labels in the U.S.!
He has appeared on countless programs such as Nashville Now, TNN's Texas Connection, music videos and special appearances on TNN, Austin City Limits, Texas Ranger's Baseball games (singing the National Anthem), and other appearances too numerous to mention.
Gary P. Nunn's itinerary takes him to all the major cities in Texas where he consistently packs houses with his loyal following and winning news fans who confess they never really liked country music, but they just love Gary P. Nunn! Often one can find big name country artists in the audience who admit they grew up listening to and being influenced by his music.
He is well known and respected in the Nashville music community and was honored there recently at a reception at BMI for his contributions as a writer and publisher. He has resisted offers to relocate in Nashville preferring to promote the growing music industry in Texas.
He did, however, concede to record Roadtrip in Nashville, tapping musicians from Trisha Yearwood' and Vince Gill's bands and inviting an old friend from Texas, Hal Ketchum, to sing harmonies.
Gary P. Nunn enjoys a near folk status in Texas as he continues to sing the praises of the state, its culture, and its colorful characters. His fans come from all walks of life and range from small children who know the words to every song; to college students who have given up hard rock for the Texas two-step; to professionals who have never set foot in a honky-tonk; to octogenarian couples who still snuggle on the dance floor.
Gary P. Nunn has the unique ability to appeal to all. His performances are lively and danceable, yet sensitive and image provoking. They are often humorous and always entertaining. Gary P. Nunn never met a stranger and is always available to meet with fans which contributes greatly to his popularity.
He has been described as everything from "a pioneer of Texas country music" to "a part of the fabric of contemporary Texas culture" to "the mule that pulls the Texas country music wagon!" However, one chooses to describe him, there is no denying his contribution in thepast and that he will be at the head of the herd in Texas music in the future.
You can find Gary P. on the road from Austin to Dallas, Louisiana to New Mexico to Oklahoma, and at many venues in Europe... always playing good country music, and inviting the crowd to Go Home with the Armadillo.

Dosey Doe Coffee House presents Bill Rice (Acoustic Show).
Take plenty of heartache, two near death experiences, a whole lotta “backroadin” therapy, a couple of bar scars, the perfect farmer’s tan, combine it with meaningful lyrics, a soulful voice, solid guitar work and you’ve got Bill Rice, Texas country music artist from Austin, Texas.
Rice’s debut album, “I’d Do It All Again”, captured the attention of Texas radio and country music fans by boasting 3 hit singles on The Texas Music Chart. That is quite a feat for a debut album from a promising new artist. The debut album was recorded by Ken Tondre, of Kevin Fowler fame.
After releasing his debut album in 2007, Bill Rice hit the road touring to promoting his new album and to gain country fans across Texas. Rice has performed with most of the great names in Texas country music, including: Randy Rogers, Wade Bowen, Cory Morrow, Kevin Fowler, Roger Creager, Charlie Robison, Jason Boland, Stoney Larue, Monte Montgomery and others.
Kevin Fowler said it best when he was asked about Bill Rice’s debut CD, “Bill’s record is top notch! His songs are great and his voice is as soulful as you will hear. The great production on this record adds to the high quality he was goin’ for. “I’d Do It All Again” is as good a debut album as you will find in my opinion.”
In 2009, Rice returned to the studio to start work on his 2nd CD. The new album was recorded by Bill's longtime friend, Roger Blevins Jr., of Mingo Fishtrap. Mingo Fishtrap has been a staple in the soul music scene for over 15 years. The new CD entitled, “Long Hard Ride” was released earlier this year. "Long Hard Ride" once again, captures the soulful and powerful voice that made Bill Rice's debut album such a success..
The year 2010 sprung Bill Rice to major heights. With his 2007 CD getting highly acclaimed reviews from the music industry, and with the release of his second CD, "Long Hard Ride" on Aaron Ave Records, Rice is destined to finally receive the recognition that becomes him. The new single, "Rockstar" re-affirmed Bill Rice's talent as a serious Texas country artist by reaching in the Top 10 on the Texas Music Chart.
Bill Rice was born and raised in rural Oklahoma. After high school, he attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He worked as a bouncer at the world famous Tumbleweed Dancehall, where he got to meet some of his country music idols. The time spent working at the venue had a profound effect on his decision to withdraw from college just shy of having his college degree, to pursue his dream of being a country musician.
Bill Rice is “the real deal”. He writes his own music, and writes about the life he has lived, and music that his fans can relate to. He has obtained everything the good old fashion way,......... by working very hard. Nothing was handed to Bill, he did it with hard work and determination. And his hard work and dedication to country music shines thru in his music.
His unique musical style blends the sounds of americana, southern rock and country. Some of his musical influences include: Chris Knight, Merle Haggard, Walt Wilkins, Jimmy Lafave, Monte Montgomery, Keith Urban, John Cougar and Allman Brothers.
Bill Rice,…………………. the next talented country artist coming from the great State of Texas.
